The opportunity to set your company apart from the others isn’t in the manpower that you offer. The quality of work you and your customers expect will happen with quality people to help you achieve it.

Lead by Example.

When it comes to running a successful company, it starts with you. You can’t expect your foremen, managers and supervisors to be any better than average if you’re not meeting those standards yourself. Always remember that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree!

Improve your Hiring Process.

Success won’t happen without great people. Take your time and look for the best candidates. Expand your search through social media channels, conduct interviews and check references. Spending more time on hiring will inevitably help you spend less time rehiring. Use this hiring process (flowchart).

Train.

Have you ever heard the term “You reap what you sew”? Well, that heavily applies when it comes to skill and expertise. Ensure your managers have a system to onboard the newbies properly. Continuous, ongoing training is key. There is always room for improvement when it comes to efficiency.

Set Goals.

You’ll set the bar by defining average vs. exceptional work and sharing this with your team. Implement and stick to an employee evaluation system so they know what is expected of them. Make it measurable, such as customer feedback or sales revenue per labor dollar. Success and the feeling of accomplishment is the best motivation. This (form) is a great foundation to establish goals and evaluate individual growth.

Tangible Encouragement.

A little incentive goes a long way. Motivate your employees to do the job right. Implementing a system that rewards your them for their efforts will a create sense of appreciation for their hard work in your business. It could be as easy as gift cards or a bonus system. Take care of your employees, and they’ll take care of your business.

You’re just one step away from better
