Leading up to International Women’s Day on March 8, 2020, LMN will be highlighting each of these influential women across all platforms. They will share insights and quotes on how each of them launched their careers, their biggest influences, and their advice to future female landscapers.
Breaking Glass Ceilings and Cutting Down Barriers
All of these women share a common interest, and it’s not just the love of landscaping. They all understand the importance of helping other women succeed. From the women who have influenced them along the way, to the best tips and practices they would share with future female landscape leaders, these women are open to sharing their experiences in hopes of continuing to diversify the landscape industry.
Brittany Auman of Auman Landscaping says that education is the key to success as a female leader in the landscape industry.
“If you are a woman looking to get into this industry I already know you aren't lazy,” says Auman. “Being a landscaper is hard work! What will really set you apart from everyone else will be your knowledge. When you know what you're talking about people will stop to listen.”
Pam Dooley of Plants Creative Landscapes offers some additional advice to next-gen landscapers, “I think researching companies who are members of local or national industry associations are a good place to start as I believe this shows a commitment to serving our industry. Visit websites and social feeds to learn more about these companies and the people who work there. If you can imagine being a part of that team, reach out!”
International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality. International Women's Day (IWD) has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. IWD is not country, group or organization specific. #IWD2020 #EachforEqual
